I thought we could do a little Night in Our Lives vlog! Solo parenting a 3.5-year-old toddler and a newborn means having a solid nighttime routine is everything. We’re talking dinner, evening walks, and getting both babies down for bed – and somehow keeping my sanity intact.
Our Little Evening Timeline
I normally try to have dinner cooked and on the table by 6:30 PM. This gives me enough time to do bath time around 6:45 or 7:00. Trip goes to sleep around 7:00 to 7:30, and Tate’s bedtime is typically between 7:30 and 8:00. Having everyone down by 8 means I can actually breathe for a minute.
What’s for Dinner?
Tonight’s menu? Chicken and green beans. Nothing fancy, but it’s easy and the kids will eat it, which is really all that matters on a busy weeknight.
Nap Time = Laundry Time
I spent the entire hour and a half during nap time today doing laundry, and I still have two more loads that need to be folded and put away. Does the laundry ever actually end?!
I also prepped Tate’s lunch for preschool tomorrow – pizza, crackers, some berries, and oranges. Getting this done ahead of time is a lifesaver for morning chaos.

Pre-Bedtime Walk
T-minus 30 minutes before bath time means it’s time for our evening walk! I love getting outside to get my steps in, and I bring the kids along since it helps tire everyone out (myself included!), and honestly, the crisp fall air is nice (it’s finally cooling down in Texas!) Tate was a little snoozer on the walk tonight -so sweet.

7 O’Clock: Let the Bedtime Begin
By 7:00 PM, we’re starting the whole bedtime routine. Some nights go smoother than others (it’s tough juggling two on your own!) but having that consistent routine really helps. Tate loves his little bedtime routine, we get to read together every night which is so sweet.

Solo parenting evenings can be exhausting, but finding a rhythm that works makes all the difference. If you’re in the thick of it with little ones, just know you’re doing amazing. All us mamas are all just out here doing our best, one bedtime at a time!
