Toddler Room Makeover: Transforming My Son’s Nursery To A Big Boy Room

< back to blog

With baby #2 on the way, it was time to transition our oldest into his very own big boy room! This has been such a bittersweet project—exciting to give him a space that feels all his own, but also a reminder of how fast he’s growing up.

I wanted his room to feel cozy, functional, and of course, cute, while still reflecting his little personality. We kept things neutral but warm, layering in fun textures and classic pieces that will grow with him. The boucle upholstered platform bed was the perfect starting point—it has such a timeless look and makes the space feel extra special. I paired it with striped bedding that adds just the right amount of pattern without overwhelming the room.

For storage (because we all know toddlers come with so much stuff), I added these wooden baskets to keep toys organized but still within easy reach. The wood bench is another favorite find—classic, sturdy, and the perfect mix of function and style.

To make the space feel playful, I layered in some sweet little details, like the wall art and reading nook setup with a comfy chair and book ledges. I love that he already gravitates toward it for bedtime stories!

It’s been so fun to watch him light up in his new room—he’s fully embracing his big boy era, and my heart can’t take it. Now, onto getting the nursery ready for baby!
